Transforming....

The ALT Group uses our skills in Permaculture Design to take unused land and transform it into beautiful and useful community spaces. We use the land to grow food or herbs, we also grow flowers suitable for wildlife and create useful social spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Any land can be considered for a Transformation Project and we work with many local partners to make them happen. We completed our first Transformation in 2017 and are currently planning our next projects, so watch this space for more information.

Transforming Hamsterley & Westood Community Centre

Our Transform project at Hamsterley and Westwood Community Centre. is looking amazing after one season of changes.  We will be working with this local community to transform the exterior of their local community cente.
After a meeting with local residents we have decided our goals are:
  • To make the building more inviting and welcoming by improving it's curb appeal.
  • Create a safe accessible outdoor space for children and the local communtiy to enjoy.
  • Promote the centres events and activites with eye-catching and easy to read signage.
  • Create a beautiful space that benefits local wildlife.

We have created a design and collaberated all our ideas to transform this space. The project has been broken down into three manageable and seasonal phases and we expect these phases to be completed during Spring 2021.

Transforming Barnardo's Blackhill

In 2017 we teamed up with Barnardo's in Blackhill to transform the unused flower bed at the front of their shop. We worked with four wonderful local children who volunteered their time to help us create a beautiful flower display.

Our Permaculture designers had created a choice of designs based on the needs of the staff at Barnardo's. The children decided to select a design that benefits Bees and Butterflies to support declining numbers in the area. We then chose perennial flowers, flowering bushes, herbs and planted spring blubs so the area would bloom all year around, and come back year after year.
The team spent four days planning the project, collecting materials and making the changes, during the school holidays. Flowers and other items were donated by locals and businesses in the area. We would like to give thanks to everyone involved: Blackhill Club, Jospeh Page, Ken Coulson, B&Q, Beveridges Nurseries, Morrisons, Richard Judd as well as our brilliant volunteer facilitators Ryan & Lucy.
