From October 2015 to October 2018, The ALT Group is proud to have hosted a weekly Community Meal in association with Blackhill Club.
Currently taking a break and looking to develop our service and change our offering to keep up with the needs of our group and the local community.
The successful project set out to offer a hot, nutritious, three course meal with a vegetarian option also available, free of a monetary charge. Hosting from a local socail club we could provide a warm and safe environment with a community orientated, shared eating experience. The meal welcomed many members of the commity was always family friendly and alcohol free.
Where & When
We are currently taking break from service.
We strongly believe good food and good company will enhance the quality of life of our residents and we are pleased to bring community eating back to Consett. We are looking at more ways to reach local people. Look out for new projects in 2019.
The ALT Group Community Meal relied upon community values and everyone helping each other. Food donations from generous Individuals, groups & local businesses, help us to provide a variety of meals week to week and to achieve our weekly goal of providing a 3 course meal.
We also worked with Tesco & Fareshare as well as local food bank Food 4U to collect, redistribute and make meals from edible food waste, which for various reasons may be discarded while still good to eat.
Any funds donated were used to cover volunteer expenses, admin or equipment costs for the meal. Local residents donated time as a volunteer to help prepare and serve the Community Meal.
