Working in collaboration with Umbrella CIC, we collect edible food waste from local supermarkets & businesses or food can be donated directly to the fridge.
The ALT Group Community Fridge relies upon Community values and everyone helping each other. Food can be donated by Individuals or local businesses, It is food which is still safe and suitable to eat but is at risk of being wasted.
We work with local business and charities like Maddisons, Sale Pepe & Co-op, local food bank Food 4U & PACT House Stanley as well as large orgaisations such as Tesco, Fareshare & Food Cloud to collect and redistribute edible food waste, which for various reasons may be discarded while still good to eat.
Individuals can also donate food. Any food which is sealed and is likely to be wasted can be brought in. We accept items of food which can be stored chilled, frozen or on the shelf. All the food we supply has a short shelf life left and should be eaten within 24 hours.
As we are working with food, all our Community Fridge Supporters are Food Safety Trained, and The ALT Group is a registered food business.
We are looking for Community Support for all aspects of this project, we have positions available offering assistance during the Community Fridge opening times and if we have more help we can open more days.
If you own a car we have positions for collection drivers, who collect donations from around the local area.

Our funding comes from individual donations, through our own fundraising efforts and start-up grant funding.
