The ALT Group is delighted to announce our plans to begin our Community Farming Project which began in 2016. We Plan to use local unused land and create beautiful, Permaculture farms where will we organically grow fruit, vegetables, flowers & herbs.
Different to the typical agricultural farm system, these will be smaller sites which are diverse eco-systems that work for local residents and wildlife, while being easier to maintain without the use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides. Sometimes this type of system is referred to as a "Patchwork Farm" as it is made up using small, patches of unused land. More than just growing food these small farming sites can incorporate social facilities or other ideas which help to meet a community need in the area and create a local sustainable food and energy system, creating little waste and putting to best use the resources in the area. |
Our first site is in planning stages with our Community Meal partners, Blackhill Club. They have unused land around the club and to the east of the building which we are able to use to grow food to supply our Community Meal, and in exchange we will improve the look and facilities in this well loved, local social centre.
