The ALT Group is proud to launch our new project for 2017 your Community Fridge & Veg shed. Thanks to Sainsbury's Waste Less, Save More and Hubbub, we are able to join 49 other community organisations to lauch a national Community Fridge Network learning how to share food together.
We collect edible food waste from local supermarkets and businesses and make it available to everyone to use. The items we collect would otherwise go in the bin and ultimately to land fill causing. We believe food should be used, and we help to find potential food waste a happy mouth to feed instead.
The Veg Shed is a store for locally grown produce, normally from allotments or community gardens, that are not needed by the grower. We collect the food and offer it to the community to take home and enjoy. We believe when you eat better you feel better, and there is no better food than when it is locally grown with love.
The Community Fridge & Veg Shed is located at xxx xxx xxx. It is open to everyone at the following times:
The ALT Group Community Fridge & Veg Shed relies upon Community values and everyone helping each other. Food can be donated by Individuals or local businesses, It is food which is still safe and suitable to eat but is at risk of being wasted.
We work with Tesco & Fareshare as well as local food bank Food 4U to collect and redistribute edible food waste, which for various reasons may be discarded while still good to eat.
Individuals can also donate food. Any food which is sealed and is likely to be wasted can be brought in, as well as cooked meals which can be reheated. We accept items of food which can be stored chilled, frozen or on the shelf.
All the food we supply has a short shelf life left and should be eaten within 24 hours. We don't offer any food which might be unsafe or is past it's Use By date.
As we are working with food, all our Community Fridge Volunteers are Food Safety Trained, and The ALT Group is a registered food business with a ***** Five star Food Hygiene rating.
We are looking for volunteers for all aspects of this project, If you own a car and wish to help, we have positions for volunteer drivers, who can help us collect donations from around the local area. We also have positions available offering assitance during the Community Fridge opening times.
